A Walk: 23 December, 2023
Sometimes I take photos but never share them or the story that goes along with them. I'm experimenting in ways to go about that, and this one occurred to me today. Here it goes:
Here's where it happened. I have this great counter between my kitchen and sitting/living area. It's taller than a normal counter or standing desk, so it's great for writing and doing stuff like that. It's too tall for chopping vegetables.
Anyway, I got sidetracked. Moving on...
A lot of these streets were cobblestones, or cat stones as they called them, last time I was here. But I reckon you can only pave and repave with rocks so many times.
I also found the camera shop, and...
Here's a photo of their film offerings, in case you're in the market:
Is she admiring herself in a pool of melted snow?
Is he preparing to charge?
I didn't stick around to find out.
When I looked into it a bit more after my walk, the desolate quarter of the fifth district grew more compelling. It's like this hidden desert canyon of baseline culture in the middle of the city. It's strange. It feels like a secret.
One more... an entire city block being demolished. I wanted to climb the rubble and explore the building, but the fear of Hungarian jail stopped me.
(Picture a plate of food here, please. A small restaurant. A Hungarian family to my right, a couple in front of me. Outside, to my left pedestrians lean into a windy snow on their way to West End mall for a little Christmas shopping. A tram rattles by, decked out with Christmas lights.)
Have a lovely holiday and/or a Merry Christmas, with a bubbly New Years to follow. Send pics.
Love you all,
Chip
